5 Lies That Hold You Back From Your True Potential

Lies that people tell themselves that hold them back from successMaybe you have a pretty good handle on what you bring to the world that allows you to create value and solve problems.  Perhaps you have a good handle on your Soul Purpose.

Once you get a handle on these things then, if you can get past the fear, you start doing something.

When you start doing something then you encounter opposition.

The world gets alarmed when you get off your ass and start playing to your potential.  In fact, there is an opposing force that seems to start pushing against you as soon as you make the decision that you are going to play at a higher level.  When the oppositional force starts working against you and it subtly starts to play games with your head by filling it with lies.  Here are a few of the most common lies that you may be faced with:

Lie #1 I don’t have time.  I have already addressed this recently, you can check my thoughts out on this here.

Lie #2 Once you know your Soul Purpose, you are good to go.  Soul Purpose is not the end game.  Defining what that looks like for you is just the beginning.

Lie #3 I thought this was my purpose but I am wrong about that.  For those of you who think you’re travelling down the wrong path, my question for you is, says who? How do you know you are travelling the wrong path?  Most of the time when you think this, you have no actual evidence to support that this is true.

Lie #4 It’s too risky.  When it come to security, you have been sold a complete bill of goods.  Go to college and get a job?  Sounds like a good plan until you see article after article about people who get laid off and college grads who can’t get jobs.  Oops.  About that security….  You want security?  Create something or do something that provides value to other people and just get in the habit of doing that all the time.  You may not get paid right away but eventually you will.

Lie #5 I’m not smart enough.  Let’s just get this out of the way.  You’re smart enough.  (Feel free to insert Stuart Smalley reference here.) You just start believing that you aren’t.  Because of this, you don’t take action and you enroll in course after course after course after course.  You learn this marketing tip.  That business strategy.  Meanwhile you take no action and here’s the real kicker.  The more you learn, the worse you feel about yourself because now you know what you should be doing but you’re not doing it.  When it comes to transformation, people rarely need knowledge to get them to the next step.  What they need is for someone who has a passion for them to encourage them to take the next step that they are scared to death to take.

Are one of these lies holding you back in your career and in your life.  Does it affect your business?  Your job?  Your marriage?  Your friendships?  Today’s the day to play big, the only way to defeat the lies is to put them to the test and take action.  Chances are your a total bad ass in whatever it is that you are passionate about, you just haven’t proven it to yourself yet.

My passion is taking someone’s Soul Purpose and helping them build that out so that they are creating as much value as they can for the marketplace.  Do you need some support taking your passion and purpose to the next level.  Take my 15 minute assessment and let’s talk about what it looks like to get you to your next level.

  1. Great post and thoughts Brandon! I’ve seen many people not move toward their purpose or dreams because they say they don’t have time or the means right now. The key is to take the initiative and start taking small steps toward our life purpose.
