Taking Your High Level Vision To Ground Level Action

Taking your high level ideas and turning them into ground level action.I am going to go out on a limb here and say that entrepreneurs don’t have a problem coming up with a big dream or vision.  It’s what happens next that trips business owners up.  How do you take your high level vision and turn it into ground level action?

Having a vision, a why as well as values is an important first step to creating projects and starting businesses.  For visionary business owners who already think high level, this is the easy part.

However, when you start asking the question of what needs to be done and how they are to be done, this is where things start to get a little overwhelming.  Business owners are impatient, you want it done yesterday.  When you get impatient, you either wing it or, in some cases, you don’t do anything and all you have is a dream or a wish.

Ultimately, if you are going to be involved in high level activities, it makes sense to have a team that is also engaged in their Soul Purpose.  I find that this is such a simple fix for what ails most businesses or projects but business owners try to be the rugged individualist and take their high level vision to ground level themselves.  You don’t get your team involved because you are a terrible delegator.

If you don’t have a team and you are a solopreneur.  I would recommend doing a project balance sheet around your business idea.  If you are familiar with a balance sheet (if you are reading this then you are a business owner so I pray that you are), then you know that balance sheet contains assets, liabilities and resources. The same holds true for business and projects.

With your balance sheet, start with the positive.  What are the assets of the idea?  In other words, what are all the positive aspects of the idea.  This could include your passion, your abilities, etc.

Next is the liabilities?  What are the areas where you are not in a strong position with the idea?  This could include areas that you don’t know anything about, like building a website to areas where you don’t have a team to help you implement the idea.

Next is resources.  Do you use money as an excuse as to why you can’t do things?  Money is never the most important resource that you have available to you anyway.  More importantly is mental capital (your brain and your ideas) and relationship capital (your network). What are the resources that you have available to you to help you move the idea forward.

This simple assessment of where you are at in the initial stage of your business or project allow you to map out what needs to be done next and gives you a better idea of how you can do it, given the resources that are available to you.

High level thinkers need ground level strategies but don’t get hung up in the details.  Lay your cards on the table and then create a plan around what you do have to make your business or project work.   High level vision requires ground level action but ultimately leads your business to high level results.
