Your FAQ Page Doesn’t Tell The Whole Story

How can you engage your business audience through your story?Educating your current and potential customer base is the simplest way to market your business.  One way that businesses have traditionally tried to help customers get an understanding of their business is through a FAQ page on their website.  If you are like most businesses, your FAQ page likely doesn’t tell the whole story.

Although your FAQ page may not tell the whole story, if you have a FAQ page on your site by no means take it down.  Make sure your FAQ page is up-to-date and then add a few things to the mix to ensure you are connecting with your audience.

As a small business owner, one of the most powerful things that you can do for your customer base is tell them your story.

Not the antiseptic, dry bio story that seem to be on most sites.  The real story.  For example if you have ever been to a networking event and asked someone why they got into the business that they are in, you probably have been inspired by their story of why they do what they do.

Here’s the problem.

You go to their website and that inspirational story is nowhere to be found.  Instead you see this:

So and so started their business in 2005.  They love helping people.  So and so went to school at X University and studied Engineering.  They have 2 pet hamsters and live in Detroit.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Give your audience the goods,  give them the real thing.

Maybe you grew up broke and now want to be a financial advocate for people.  Maybe like me you had your soul sucked out of you in Corporate America and you want people to know that they have real career options and more control than they think.

The great thing is that you can tell this story through the written word, video or podcast (you should probably use all 3.)  You can use social media platforms to tell your story.  You can create additional products, like a book, to further tell that story.  Public speaking is a great way to tell your story.

Telling your story isn’t for you.  It’s to let people know that you are just like them and that you have been there.  You get them.  A simple FAQ page won’t tell that story.

How can you take your story and better illustrate your passion and purpose for your current and potential customers?
