Building The Framework For Your Idea

frameworkOnce you have asked some simple questions about your idea and you have a good feel for moving forward with it, start building the framework of the idea.  This is where a simple SWOT analysis can come in handy to help you build the framework for the idea.

Strengths:

What are you good at?   Where can you utilize your strengths and talents to get the idea off the ground?  This is where you can assess you team as well by looking at who you already have in place.  Start also by reviewing the resources that you have available whether it be cash/credit, a solid team, access to office space and equipment etc.  Do you have good relationships with some vendors?

Weaknesses:

What are the weak points of your existing idea?  What are your personal weak points?  What blind spots do you have that require a team that you haven’t put into place yet?  Is your idea new to market?  Do you have enough time to make this happen? These are some questions to ask to assess your strengths and weaknesses.

Opportunities:

Do you have a niche already carved out for your idea that hasn’t been exploited?  Do you have great relationships built to help get the word out about your idea?  This is the area to look at where you can gain an advantage or where you can get your idea more easily into the market.  Look at relationships, expertise, knowledge, government created advantages etc.

Threats:

This is a time to look at the landscape of the industry you want to work in to see where there may be some future obstacles.  It’s important to not just assess today but where things will be in the future so that you can look at issues such as hiring, scalability, systems and process for delivery etc.

This beginning assessment will help to continue to answer questions and allow you to put things down on paper and start creating the process around your idea which ultimately will result in a rough framework for how your idea will survive in the marketplace.
