Tools for Shifting Your Personal Viewpoint

man-climbing-mtnI touched briefly on tools to help you shift your mindset to see yourself differently on Monday.  I wanted to dive into those a little more in depth and add more tools that you can utilize to start shifting your mindset and living as the person that you want to be.

The first tools that I will touch on again is meditation.  An article that I ran across at discovery.com give an extensive process for getting started with meditation.  The article talks about 4 basic meditative practices.  The practices are follow your breath, observe an icon, recite a mantra and do a guided meditation.  These are meditation tools to aid you in your journey towards finding a meditative state.  This is a great start for beginners.

The second tool is visualization.  This can be done in the same space as your meditation in that you are already in a relaxed focused state.  Visualization is the process of seeing events and occurences in your life as you want them to happen and unfold.  It’s important, when doing this, to be as detailed with your visualization as possible.  Incorporating sights, smells, sounds etc to make it seem as “real” as possible.

The last tool that I didn’t mention in my previous post is reciting a reality statement.  The reality statement is a written statement on your life.  You include things that you want to be doing, how you see your life and even things that you are grateful for.  This exercise was introduced to me by spiritual teacher Steve D’Annunzio.  When crafting your reality statement, it’s important to make it about value creation.  Don’t create a reality statement that talks about the fancy car that you drive or the millions in your bank account.  There is no real power in those things and your reality statement will not be as effective. Your reality should be read a minimum of twice daily.

Utilize these tools this week and incorporate them into a daily routine for yourself.  How have you used these tools for success in your life?  What areas have you maybe struggled with?
