What Does A Day Of Awesomeness Look Like In Your Business?

Point four of my Total Experience Design Manifesto is that the “Internal culture if the caretaker of the external experience.”  To boil that down in simpler terms, it’s hard to create an awesome experience for your customers when you treat your team like shit.  Even though this makes sense to you and me, there are a lot of leaders who don’t understand this concept.

Enter Dr Jason West,  Jason runs the West Clinic (how did he come up with that name) in Pocatello, Idaho.  Not only does Jason run a practice, he runs a highly successful practice.  You can hear about some of his results in this video.

Jason also happens to be a client.  What I love about Jason is that he is always looking for ways to push the standard higher.  Because of this, he is able to create success in a market that wouldn’t be known for producing a large volume practice.  In case you have never been to Pocatello (your loss), it’s on the smaller side.

A recent inspiration that Jason had come from a talk from Mind Valley CEO, Vishen Lakhiani.  In this talk Vishen shared his day of awesomeness that he does with his team.  Jason has since taken this concept and instituted a day of Awesomeness in his clinic.  The team does twice the results in that day as other days.  They have to share one thing that make them awesome and they share with patients why the clinic is awesome.  I love this concept, it’s simply….awesome.  Shout out to Billy Ocean right there.  (I realize only a select few of you will understand that reference and I don’t have time to explain it here Caribbean Queen)

The moral of the story is this.  If you are only focused on creating an amazing experience for your customers, patients, buyers, etc.  You are missing out on the opportunity to create amazing experiences for your team who will then pass that on to your end users.

Unreasonable business owners look to create unreasonable standards of greatness for people to follow.  The inspiring thing is that your team will aspire to reach the bar you set for them.  No higher.  No lower.

Where are you going to set your bar?  What does your day of awesomeness look like?  Would love to hear your story?

PS….Have you read my book Total Experience Design:  How To Stand Out In A Crowded Market?  It’s for unreasonable business owners who want to create their own awesomeness.  Check it out here.
